FULL BIO: Isaiah (Ike) Johnson has a lifetime of service and a proven history of innovative leadership. Born in rural Mississippi, Ike’s early years taught him the values of hard work, looking out for one’s neighbors, and giving back to the community. These early lessons set him on a path of service to country and community that guides his steps today.

In 1972, Ike enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, beginning a career that would span almost 27 years. He earned the ranks of Private through Gunnery Sergeant, Warrant Officer 1 and 2, and then Limited Duty Officer, First Lieutenant to Major.

While being a dedicated family man and serving in the Marine Corps, Ike earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees (Psychology and Criminal Justice) and a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Management. He is married to Annette Johnson and they have two children.

Ike served in many capacities over his Marine Corps career, including infantry Machine Gunner, Infantry Training Instructor at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Drill Instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, Marine Instructor for Naval ROTC at the University of Missouri, Military Policeman at Camp Lejeune, Bulk Fuel Officer, Engineer Maintenance Officer, and Food Services Officer.

During Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, First Lieutenant Johnson designed, developed, and managed the largest field mess in the history of the Marine Corps. For his outstanding accomplishment, he was awarded the Bronze Star for superior performance in a combat environment.

In 1992, Captain Johnson took the lessons in efficiency he learned in the desert and set about revamping and streamlining the food services at MCRD Parris Island. His efforts were noticed, and he was hand-picked to create an innovative pilot program that would transform the ordering and delivery systems for food service operations throughout the Department of Defense. The Food Services Direct Delivery Project was so successful that it saved MCRD Parris Island millions of dollars annually and became the model for the Food Service Prime Vendor Program that was then fully adopted and implemented by the Department of Defense, one of the biggest changes to operations since World War II. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his performance.

Major Johnson oversaw the implementation of the Prime Vendor Program at Quantico, then moved on to his final assignment at Fort Lee, Virginia. Major Johnson was the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Food Service School; US Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, where he successfully led and managed the training of over 1,500 Marines and 5,000 Soldiers. He vastly lowered the cost of making a Food Service Marine, and he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 2nd award) for his efforts. Major Johnson was the Food Service Officer for several other Marine Corps Installations and Commands during his career.

Major Johnson retired from the Marine Corps in 1999 and went on to serve as Senior Marine Officer Instructor for the Marine Corps Reserve Junior Officer Training Corps at Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida. This experience teaching grades 9-12 gave him great respect for the role and importance of education and educators. In 2002, he returned to Onslow County and began a five-year career as Vice-President of Military Food Services East Coast Operations for Sodexo-Marriot, now Sodexo USA. He led 32 Marine Corps Mess Halls and managed over 1,200 employees across the East Coast. For jobs onboard Camp Lejeune, Ike Johnson hired directly from the local community of Onslow County and surrounding areas.

Ike Johnson is deeply invested in the Jacksonville area. He serves this community in many ways. In 2004, he was appointed to the Marine Federal Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee and served as Chairman of this Committee from 2007-2016, while serving as a member of the Board of Directors from 2007 to present. Ike devotes his time to J.T.Kerr Memorial Baptist Church, where he is Chair of the Deacon Board. Ike also serves as Vice-Chair of the Montford Point Marine Association Chapter #10. Since 2010, he has served as President and CEO of Magnanimous Community Mentoring, an organization that mentors youth and families throughout Onslow County Schools. Additionally, Ike serves as Chair for the Onslow County Democratic Party. In all his endeavors, Ike’s innovative leadership and dedication to service shine bright.
